True 3-D Scanning Capability
PECo’s proprietary data acquisition algorithms and Renishaw® 3D probe technology produce true 3D measurements in an error-compensated work envelope enabling the Next Dimension® Gear Measurement Machine to generate comprehensive measurements on various surface orientations.
Off-The-Shelf Probe Technology
Off-the-shelf probe technology means the probes used on the Next Dimension® Gear Measurement Machines provide proven technology, are less costly to replace than machine-specific probes, allow for quick change tooling, and are easy to find when a replacement probe is needed.
Gear Tooth Measurement
Due to the flexibility that comes with an off-the-shelf Renishaw® Probe, the Next Dimension® Gear Measurement Machine is able to measure the smallest gear teeth of all the analytical machines in the market today. With the ability to measure down to 120DP or 0.21MOD the ND430 gives you the ability to measure and analyze those components that you previously just had to assume were correct or had to test functionally on roll testing equipment.
2.17 Cubic Foot ‘Measuring Zone’
Using a unique combination of linear displacement and volumetric algorithms, the ND430 Next Dimension® Gear Measurement System maintains accuracy throughout the 2.17 cu. ft. (0.062 cubic meters) ‘measuring zone’ making it possible to inspect several features of a part and accurately relate them to one another. PECo’s unique proprietary spatial mapping algorithms enhance the accuracy of the system, providing accurate inspection throughout the entire measuring volume.
Volumetric Accuracy
The ND430 Gear Measurement System is designed to be volumetrically accurate to allow gear measurements to be made in relation to specific geometric features of the part in which the gear resides (e.g. in relation to a bearing journal, a face, a boss, a keyway of the part, etc.).
Root Scanning
The Next Dimension® Gear Measurement System has the ability to scan and measure the root of the gear below the involute profile to check for abnormalities that would affect the overall performance of the gear in relation to its mating gear (e.g. burrs in the root, an incorrect cut below the involute profile, etc.). Having this information could enable you to modify designs or make manufacturing corrections to improve the overall strength, life, and/or cost of the gear. Root scanning also allows you to characterize the transition between the root and involute form, as well as determine the gear’s minor and major diameter.
Off-Axis Datum Reference
The ND430 Gear Measurement System provides the ability to measure a gear and/or related features in relation to functional datums and/or compare measurements to manufacturing datums (e.g. diameters, faces, bearing journals, etc.). Using the ND430 to make these types of measurements provides better correlation of inspection results to operational datums thus eliminating the need for expensive tooling or fixtures. Other benefits are reduced setup, testing of multiple features with the same setup and lower-level of operator skills needed to perform the operation – freeing up your higher-skilled operators for other needs.
